As we gear up for Winter 2024-2025, SNOOW proudly announces a monumental decision — bidding farewell to PFC RACE Flour-based ski wax and pivoting entirely towards our environmentally conscious ECO RACE ski wax. This upcoming season marks a watershed moment for SNOOW, as it commits to a 100% green approach, prioritizing sustainability in the tracks and on the slopes.

In Switzerland, where non-FIS competitions still permit the use of PFC Flour Ski Wax, our decision is rooted in a meticulous understanding of the challenges and complexities surrounding sustainability. The backdrop to this transformative move is the significant investment in test equipment, driven by the realization that Switzerland hosts over 150 Nordic races and 150 Alpine races, all requiring thorough testing.

Switzerland, actively engaged in discussions and processes to define PFC flour testing methods, seeks to ensure athletes' compliance without compromising precision. The accuracy of current test machines beneath the skis falls short of expectations, prompting a testing tolerance that starts at 1.0. This grey zone permits the use of PFC Flour Paraffine Waxes as a base preparation, reaching values of 0.3-0.5, with the advantage of preventing dirt from clinging to the ski base and extending glide performance.

Despite the allure of these performance advantages, SNOOW remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainability. We understand that adopting test methods and machines to entirely rule out PFC substances would come at a significantly higher cost — 3 to 5 times more than the existing method. Recognizing the financial strain this would impose on clubs and sports associations, we find ourselves in a situation where the complete exclusion of PFC substances cannot be guaranteed.
