The Nordic skiing world descended upon Goms, near Andermatt, Switzerland, over the weekend for the World Cup in Cross Country Skiing's 20km Free Technique event. The thrilling competition showcased the prowess of top athletes from around the globe.
Friday marked the commencement of the World Cup Tour with the first mixed relay of the season. Sweden dominated the podium, securing top honors with both Team 1 and Team 2. Saturday witnessed intense sprint races, witnessing Klaebo's redemption from the previous week in Oberhof. Linn Svahn's strategic brilliance and physical strength were on full display as she surged ahead, leaving competitors behind to cross the finish line in solitary majesty.
Sunday brought the highly anticipated 20-kilometre race in the free technique for both women and men. In the women's category, a dynamic top group set a blistering pace early in the race, causing a significant split among the riders. The weather conditions, around -10 degrees with hard-packed old snow, added an extra layer of challenge. The downhill sections proved both fast and demanding. Frida Karlsson led the charge, with Jessi Diggins showcasing her finishing strength in a sprint that saw her surpass Frida on the final stretch.
